Global Warming - Speech

I spoke on Global Warming to Class of 2009 - Hult International Business School, Dubai as a part of Management Communication Course of MBA.
Special thanks to Prof. Dr. Agnieszka Kuzniarski, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, for her guidance without which this would have not been possible.
Apologies for the poor video quality, it was taken from a handheld and then converted to a compatible format due to this the high definition image quality has been lost. Sorry for the inconvenience caused!

Speech script as below:
Good afternoon Ladies and gentlemen:It’s a pleasure for me to speak in front of you today. I would like thank Dr. Agnieszka for giving me a chance. Today I’m speaking on ‘Global Warming’.There is a little doubt that the earth is warming. Over the last century, the planets average temperature has risen by around 1⁰ Celsius. The United Nation’s panel on climate change has done a forecast that the global temperature will rise by 2⁰ - 6⁰ Celsius by the end of this century. This will cause the polar caps to melt and the vast majority of our countries borders will be under water. Mountains, buildings, as well as homes and lives will be under water, including Dubai, including Mumbai including New York and many more.

Friends, if we continue living the same way I’m sure UN’s forecast will be an actual very soon.Speaking on this platform today, I don’t have any hidden agenda. I just want to tell you how the future looks like if we don’t change the way we life life. How the mother earth will be in 2050 and beyond?

Today I am afraid to go out in sun because there are holes in ozone. I am afraid to breath the air because I don’t know what chemicals are in it. Is this what we want to create for our children, our grand children and many more generations to come?

I hope the answer is NO.

We are educated people and intelligent enough to understand what is good for environment and what is detrimental but still we recklessly go there (Computer Lounge to the 2 printers) and print rims after rims every day. We need to bring a change and for that we have to take big steps to save our environment, sacrifices, fine tune our lifestyles.

Let me through some light on what all things we do to contribute to the degradation of environment resulting in global warming.Majority sitting here consumes animals for the daily diet. Eating animals wouldn’t harm the environment if it were done on a much smaller scale. But modern meat production processes involves intensive use–and often misuse–of grain, water, energy, and grazing areas and contributes heavily to all sorts of pollution and soil erosion.Producing animals! Raising animals for food is an extremely inefficient way to feed a growing human population.
It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce one kg of beef, but just 25 gallons of water to produce a kg of wheat. It takes 30 Kg of feed to get one kg of meat. But if the grain were given directly to people, it would be sufficient for all of us sitting here for a day….. Breakfast, lunch and dinner etc etc.....
Whenever you consume animals the demand of grains shoots up by a factor of 30 and to support this demand so many forests are being cut and converted to field, as we have seen in last few decades. This surely contributes to global warming.

Some of you will be thinking that vegetarian diet don’t give proteins and nutrients required to the body then let me tell you one thing about myself. I am 100% vegetarian. I have never, ever tasted meat of any kind in my life. I don’t know what it tastes like. I have never experienced how it feels to bite an animal. I am a vegetarian by birth, and vegetarian by choice.

Few days back I was watching National geographic in common room, there was a documentary on ruthless fishing. A big ship standing here and another ship far away. Between these two ship there was a net, fishing net which goes deep into the sea. Now these two ship start moving forward and the net in between catches all the species in the way, this is how fishing is done on a large scale, which you eat in form of tuna and whatever….. The further part was, out of the fishes captured and killed only 20% remain good enough for humans to eat. So what happens to the rest 80%??? The fishing companies through it back in the ocean.Friends what are we, humans trying to do? Making the ocean in graveyard. We are disturbing the whole ecological balance of earth….. My friends who are scuba diving enthusiast, just imagine when you dive you see a fish and real nature around you…. How good it will be. How good it will feel when you touch the skin of the fish when you dive. But the current food practices won’t allow you to do that. We need to change first before we accept the change for good. Remember what you sow is what you reap.

We go to Choithram, Carrefour, Lulu what we do, take the maximum number of poly bags for our easy. Needless to say but the disintegration time for polyethine is 500 years. Many of us are searching for some live projects, friends if we take a task and built plans, strategies and implement them to make sure that the consumption of poly bags from these counters is zero, then it will be one of the biggest achievement. Talk to the management of these retail stores, influence them. We need to take steps like this, we need to be responsible. There is a saying in India – “Boond boond see ghada bharta hai” Arthat “Every drop in a ocean counts a lot”…. You take a step forward, things will fall in place.

If you are thinking that I am speaking of global warming and not even talking of Carbon emission industries…. There are many govt bodies who are keeping a close watch on all those things. If you and me we make sure to do few things like, close the tap while brushing out teethes, switch-off the lights when we walk out from a break-out room, avoid using plastic glass for drinking water, this itself will be a great favor on the planet.

This is what I have to say today, but before I finish I want to share a short story with you – The story is a of a girl, who is standing on a sea shore, on a beach. With the sea waves some small fishes come on the shore and die because of heat and no water. The girl very generously through them into the water and a gentleman pass by and ask the girl, What are you doing? The girl replies all these fishes are coming on the shore and dyeing so I am putting them back in water. The gentleman says, the coastline is so big it doesn’t make a difference if you do it here there are plenty of fishes dying on such a huge coastline. The girl replies, but at least things are better in my area. Thanks!

This is the car program I worked on when I was in Ford...... Few pictures on the blog as the car is launched now.....
In brief the program content ---- New front end styling change from the Ikon flair. Installation of new powertrain, the DV4 diesel engine. The styling change includes new hood, new bumper, headlamps, fog lamps, wheel covers, tail lamps and fully painted rear bumpers, body side molding has been deleted to give better synergy with fully painted bumpers.

With interiors.... you have all new electronic cluster and new comfortful seat fabrics.....
I was the program buyer for this carline and worked with many people from different departments and countries. Few of my colleagues on the program were - Hultqvist, Jan (J.), Rimmer, Mark (M.S.), Tiwari, Manish (M.), Ashok, A D (.), Reid, Timothy (T.).

This was really a life time experience to work on a new car program.... Its not everyday you get a chance to design a new car! Best is yet to come..... Make everyday exciting!
